Glen “Buddy” Nickerson walked out of San Quentin State Prison a free man last night. Seventeen years
after he says he was wrongly convicted of two murders. A dozen friends and family greeted Nickerson outside the prison, as did two attorneys who have fought
to free him the past five years.
A federal judge presiding over the appeal believes he may not be guilty and has ordered him released until court
proceedings before her are concluded.
Earlier this month, US District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel said evidence strongly suggests Nickerson´s trial was
marked by suppression, destruction of evidence and perjury by state investigators.
Nickerson was convicted in a 1984 shootout in San Jose that left
two men dead.
