Collision Claims One Life

One person is dead and three others injured, – one seriously – after a two-car collision on Longeway Road last night.

The highway patrol reports driver 36 year-old Walter Thomas of Sonora was leaving the Crystal Falls Mini Mart in a four door Buick when he pulled out directly into the path of a Toyota Four-runner driven by 20 year-old Sandra Kay of Sonora. Kay suffered minor injuries and was treated at Sonora Community Hospital.

John Stone, who lives just down the street, heard the crash and was one of the first at the accident. Visibly shaken last night, he says he tried to help the victims. “I knew I had to come up and do CPR and try to help,” Stone said last night.

“We tried to revive that guy, for a few minutes. The EMTs came and they checked the pulse and it was flat line,” Stone said.

That victim was Walter Thomas — pronounced dead at the scene. CHP says Thomas is suspected of being under the influence at the time of the crash.

Passengers in Thomas’s car, 21 year-old Matthew Carile of Twain Harte was arrested at Sonora Community Hospital for possession of narcotics.16 year-old Summer Whitehouse was taken by Medi-flight helicopter to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
