The Mother Lode is waking up to very smoky skies this morning. No active wild fires are reported. Lingering drift smoke is from two controlled burns taking place in the region.
Fire crews from the California Department of Forestry will continue the burn in the Moccasin-Priest Reservoir area this morning. A column of smoke will be visible near Highway 49 and Priest-Coulterville Road one mile south of Highway 120 during the day.
U.S. Forest Service spokesman Pat Kaunart says his agency will continue a lengthy prescribed burn near Strawberry and Beardsley Reservoir today as well.
Expect to see a lot of smoke in the air as you head to work or school today.
