Democrat Dennis Cardoza has nearly four times as much cash available as Republican Richard Monteith for the final weeks of their hard-fought congressional campaign.
Assemblyman Cardoza, from Merced, reports $292,000 in the bank as of the end of September. A campaign finance disclosure filed with the Federal Election Commission yesterday shows Monteith, a state senator from Modesto, with $74,000 available.
Monteith spent $490,000 during the summer, much of it on a television advertising campaign that has since ended. Cardoza spent nearly $350,000 during the summer. He began his television ads in October and plans to remain on the air until the election.
