Yosemite killer Cary Stayner was repeatedly described in a San Jose court as “my friend Cary” by a woman who painted the most humanizing portrait of him yet. It´s a bid by Stayner´s defense team to spare the convicted killer the death penalty.
Elyce JaNeen Taylor says the Stayner she knew was kind, honorable and would never allow a human being to be hurt.
Now that Stayner has been convicted of murdering three park tourists and a nature guide, Taylor says she isn´t sure what to think of him.
Jurors are weighing whether Stayner will be executed or sent to prison for life for the murders of Carole Sund, her daughter Juli and their Argentine friend Silvina Pelosso.
The three were killed in February 1999 while staying at the motel where Stayner worked outside Yosemite National Park.
