Family Leave Bill Up For Signing

Governor Gray Davis is expected to sign a bill in Los Angeles today that would make California the first state in the nation to embark on a comprehensive paid family leave program. The bill will allow workers to take six weeks off from their job to care for a newborn, newly adopted child or ill family member. They will also be eligible to receive 55 percent of their wages during their leave. The employee-funded program would pay up to 490 dollars a week and cost workers an average of two-dollars and 25 cents a month.
