Sonora Gathers To Remember
Fire fighters, police, Highway Patrol Officers and Sheriff’s deputies joined an overflow crowd at Courthouse Park to hear the Sonora High School Golden Regiment Band, and listen to words from Sheriff’s Chaplain Jim McMurray. McMurray called for a minute of silence, putting the scope of the 9/11 tragedy into perspective as he did. He told the gathering: “Remember that for every second that passes, that second represents fifty who died as a result of the tragic events of September 11th. Fifty funerals and memorial services, fifty families grieving.”
The 30-minute program was a reflection of dozens of memorials and prayer services being held during the day and evening throughout the Mother Lode, and the nation.
