Modesto Police are trying to figure why a 1988 Mustang was traveling at such a high rate of speed that it was launched 25 feet into the air and slammed into a tree on Houser Lane, killing both occupants of the car.
Police investigators say the car hit a parked van on the 1200 block of the street, then went out of control knocking out 50 feet of hedge and fence. The careening vehicle then hit several railroad ties and a dirt embankment before going airborne and hitting the pine tree. Police say the force of the collision nearly torn the car in half, pinning the driver and passenger in the wreckage.
The victim´s names are being withheld until notification of next of kin.
