Boy Clings To Life In San Jose

A one-year-old boy is clinging to life this morning after he was pulled from the bottom of a backyard swimming pool in South San Jose. Police spokesman Joseph Deras says the boy and his two-year-old brother were left with a 19-year-old baby-sitter yesterday. She apparently was asleep when the boys got into the yard. A neighbor says he heard the older boy screaming in the street and went to investigate. When nobody answered the front door, he went into the yard and saw the youngster in the water. The neighbor pulled the boy out and gave him CPR. He was taken to a hospital with a faint heartbeat. The boys reportedly are cousins of the family that owns the home. They were visiting from Monterey County.
