A psychiatrist who examined Yosemite killer Cary Stayner has testified that the former motel handyman´s brain appears to be deformed.
At Stayner´s triple murder trial in San Jose today, Doctor Joseph Wu testified that Stayner´s brain is abnormally large in some areas and unusually small in others. Wu is clinical director at the University of California, Irvine, Brain Imaging Center.
Based on reports from a center for chronic hair pullers and a series of tests elsewhere, the doctor says Stayner´s brain is similar to that of a schizophrenic.
That correlates with other experts who have said Stayner is not schizophrenic but has some of the symptoms.
Stayner faces the death penalty if convicted of killing Carole and Juli Sund and Silvina Pelosso. He´s pleaded innocent by reason of insanity.
