Blown Transformer Cuts Power To Downtown

Fire crews and the PG&E are on the scene of a transformer fire at 77 South Green Street, behind the Union Democrat building. The fire and outage happened around 3:20 p.m. this afternoon.

PG&E crews at the scene say electric service will be out for at least another hour or hour and a half while the blown transformer is replaced and power is rerouted.

The fire is out but power is also out in the entire downtown Sonora area including at the county office on Yaney Street.

Traffic signals are out at Lime Kiln and Highway 108, Stockton and Washington Street and Restano and Mono Way.

PG&E crews are now trying to restore power. There are no estimates on how many PG&E customers are affected by the outage.

Sonora Police are at the intersections directing traffic. Expect to see some stop signs at these intersections

Police say Green Street will be closed indefinitely between Branford and Linoberg while power crews fix the problem. Please try to avoid the area if at all possible.

A Lyons Street resident says her cable TV service is also out.
