It´s reported that DNA evidence found on the body of five-year-old Samantha Runnion was matched with the man arrested in the Orange County killing. The Los Angeles Times cited police sources it did NOT identity concerning the D-N-A evidence. Twenty-seven-year-old Alejandro Avila of Lake Elsinore was detained for questioning Thursday following a tip. He was arrested yesterday but NOT formally charged. A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff´s Department would not confirm or deny the newspaper´s report of a D-N-A match. But spokesman Jim Amormino did say authorities have evidence linking Avila to the child´s abduction, sexual assault and murder.
Avila has denied involvement in the little girl´s abduction and murder, saying he was far away at a shopping mall in Ontario when the kidnapping occurred. His mother said at her apartment in Lake Elsinore that her son was with her Monday and Tuesday, the day the child´s body was found. The Orange County Register reported today that Avila´s sister Elvira said Avila missed a family dinner on Monday evening.
