Truck Driver´s Identity Still Not Known

Highway 108 is now open at Highway 120 Yosemite Junction. Crews have finished clean-up after this morning´s fatal accident when two big rigs collided head-on, killing one driver and severely injuring another.

Highway patrol spokesman Tom Wills says Pamela Short of Sonora was driving a loaded semi-truck eastbound when it drifted into the westbound lane and struck an empty rig around 2:30 a.m.

Short suffered severe burns and is now at UC Davis Medical Center burn unit in stable condition.

The identity of the other driver, pronounced dead at the scene, is still not known.

Wills says the local sheriffs department is awaiting dental records to help positively identify the driver. His family will then be notified before a name is released.

The firey collision touched off a four-acre grass fire that was quickly contained.

The double trailer big rigs were working on a Caltrans highway construction project in Twain Harte. Cause of the crash is under investigation.
