Disabled Get A Taste Of Off-roading

Nearly two dozen four-wheel-drive enthusiasts helped give local physically and mentally disabled folks their first off-roading experience Saturday.

Members of the Sonora four-wheel drive club “Mud Sweat and Gears,” along with members of the 4×4 In Motion Club from Modesto and numerous other area “Jeepers,” gathered in the Niagara Rim area of the Stanislaus National Forest in Tuolumne County Saturday to provide about 20 disabled guys and gals of various ages a chance to enjoy the great outdoors from an off-road vehicle during the club´s “Kids on the Rocks event.”

The 4x4s carrying participants from the local WATCH program headed up the Niagara Rim Trail, then stopped for a barbecue lunch in the mountains before heading back to base camp.

The clubs also handed out hats and other mementos of the day as well as information on the “Tread Lightly” off-road program.
