Search and rescue crews have called off an effort to find a missing rafter for today. A dive team will be sent in Tuesday to resume the search.
The Modesto area man disappeared about 7:00 p.m. last night when he and four others were dumped into the Mattahorn Rapids below Goodwin Dam. One jumped from the raft before reaching the rapids. Tuolumne County Sheriff investigators say the rafters were inexperienced. None were wearing safety equipment.
Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Lt. John Steely says the missing man is in his 20´s and cannot swim. One person was hospitalized in Oakdale with a broken leg. It took until midnight last night to get the injured victim to safety.
