Search crews are in the water and in the air along the Stanislaus river, looking for a rafter from the Modesto area missing since last evening. Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Lt. John Steely says 4 inexperienced rafters were dumped from their vessel in the Mattahorn rapids below Goodwin Dam at about 7:00 last evening. One jumped from the raft before reaching the rapids. None of the rafters were wearing safety equipment. One person was hospitalized in Oakdale with a broken leg.
Deputies say the missing man is in his 20´s and cannot swim. It took until midnight to get the injured victim to safety.
