The city of Oakland has tentatively agreed to pay 350-thousand dollars to settle a lawsuit by a woman who accused a police officer of forcing her to have sex with him while on duty.
Thirty-two-year-old Rory Keller-Dean of Oakland sued in May 2000 in federal court in San Francisco. She accused then-Officer Gary Romero of abusing his authority with the alleged sexual misconduct.
The lawsuit says Romero forcibly had sex with Keller-Dean at least two dozen times at a hotel, in her home or in cars between 1997 and 1999 while another officer sometimes acted as a lookout.
Thirty-five-year-old Romero was fired two years ago for violating department standards regarding conduct toward others.
