A Hayward engineering firm has been hired to figure out why that scaffolding collapsed on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Friday´s accident killed painter Daryl Clemons and left three other workers injured.
FTI Anamet Laboratory will conduct tests on the 18 thousand pound scaffolding, which buckled in the center as it was being lowered onto a truck. It was the second fatal accident at the project in the last year. The scaffolding was being used in the project to strengthen the bridge against a powerful earthquake. One state official says the investigation could take four months.
