The Coast Guard briefly detained five people for questioning, after witnesses reported gunfire from a pleasure boat off Los Angeles. The Coast Guard said three weapons from the World War Two era were found on a 40-foot boat, including two machine guns. The boat was halted about 2:30 pm yesterday about two-and-one-half miles offshore from the Port of Los Angeles.
Four men and a woman were detained for four hours, then released.
Although the gunfire was NOT considered a terrorist threat, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is investigating.
