Thousands of the state´s working poor parents will be eligible for health care coverage under a 200 million dollar plan announced today.
An estimated 300-thousand uninsured parents will be eligible for the program, which will provide them with comprehensive medical, dental and vision health insurance coverage for 20 dollars per month.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson and Governor Davis made the announcement today in Los Angeles.
The plan will be an extension of the state´s Health Families program, which provides health insurance to impoverished children. The program, which is jointly funded by the state and federal government, provides nearly 500-thousand children in the state with medical coverage.
Davis says he hopes the program can be implemented as soon as July first.
