More than 200 people gathered yesterday in Pacific Grove to say goodbye to Captain Matthew Bancroft. He´s the Marine pilot killed last month when his plane crashed in Pakistan.
Bancroft of Redding was one of seven Marines who died January ninth when the U.S. military tanker plane crashed into a mountain and burst into flames.
A letter from former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach was read during the service. Bancroft and Staubach both attended the US Naval Academy.
After the funeral service, four F-18 fighter jets flew over Monterey City Cemetery to memorialize Bancroft.
He is survived by his wife, three children, his parents, a sister and a grandmother.
