A man has been booked for investigation of murder in the death of his infant son more than 30 years ago in Los Angeles.
Jeffrey Montoya died at Harbor General Hospital of a severe beating. His parents said the one-year-old had fallen, but police were suspicious and ordered an autopsy. By the time the coroner ruled his 1970 death a homicide, the boy´s parents had disappeared.
Two detectives combing through files in the Police Department´s Cold Case Homicide Unit tracked them down, and last week the boy´s father, Lee Montoya, was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He´s now awaiting extradition to Los Angeles.
Police are crediting the boy´s mother in helping them track down her ex-husband. She was not arrested.
