Several hundred San Francisco commuters have had to navigate a labor protest this week during their search for a parking spot.
Employees of Priority Parking Services forced a parking lot and garage at the Transbay terminal to shut down both yesterday and Thursday. They were protesting the new operator which doesn´t recognize unions. They say they won´t get the pay they deserve.
Caltrans owns the parking lot and picks an operator through a public big process. US Parking Incorporated won by offering 160-thousand per month, the most rent money.
Caltrans says its mandate is to get the most revenue it can. US Parking says it offers workers health benefits and will pay them only slightly less than operators who recognize unions.
