More Details Emerge On Accusations
More details are emerging in the case of a Fresno woman who is accusing Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony of sexual molestation.
Fifty-one-year-old Flora Mae Hickman admits she is taking medication for depression and has been diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic, but says she´s telling the truth about what happened with Mahony.
Hickman says she was knocked unconscious and woke to find the cardinal, then a monsignor in Fresno, standing over her. She says the bottom portion of her clothing was removed.
Hickman says this happened in 1969 when she was a student at San Joaquin Memorial Catholic High School in Fresno.
Hickman has told the Los Angeles Times that many people have
molested or abused her in the past, including her parents, family members, classmates and co-workers.
She also told them she´s coming forward because the state is
cutting her disability payments and she needs a cash settlement from the church.
For his part, Mahony, who heads the nation´s largest archdiocese, has denied the allegations and has urged authorities to investigate.
He says he has no recollection of every meeting Ms. Hickman,
adding he only went to her high school on rare occasions to say Mass.
