What a change in the weather from the weekend.
Many Mother Lode residents were greeted to falling snow this morning, as a light dusting of the cold, white stuff fell in Twain Harte, Miwuk, Long Barn and higher elevations along Highway 108 in Tuolumne County, and as low as 2,400 feet at Sheep Ranch near Arnold in Calaveras County.
High winds knocked over three big rigs in the hills east of San Francisco this morning. The CHP closed a major highway to large trucks for a few hours. The trucks were crossing the Altamont Pass on Highway 580, where winds were recorded at up to 45 miles an hour.
A 12-car crash in the Sierra has closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Truckee. Two large semi-trailer trucks tipped over and spilled some of their contents on the road. No word yet on possible injuries.
Forecasters are saying much of the cloud cover will be leaving the Foothills area by this afternoon, but weather will continue to be breezy and cool with highs in the low 60s. Overnight, skies should be mostly clear, then partly cloudy Tuesday, with high temperatures in the low 60s.
