The FBI and other law enforcement agencies raided several software pirates on the West Coast yesterday, including three locations in the Bay Area.
The busts netted a suspected software piracy ring that´s cost Microsoft $75 million in lost sales.
FBI Director Robert Mueller and others plan to tell more about “Operation Cyberstorm” at a press conference today.
The operation involved local, state and federal law enforcement officers. Some of those arrested live in Fremont, San Jose and Union City.
Officials say the arrests were the result of a two-year investigation that involved undercover officers purchasing several million dollars in counterfeit software.
Companies lose an estimated $12 billion each year to pirated software.
