Bay Area Paper Mill To Close
Some 175 people will be unemployed by the end of the year when a paper mill closes its doors in Antioch.
When Gaylord Container´s paper mill and box plant were acquired in a merger with Temple-Inland, the handwriting was on the wall.
The $900 million sale was completed April fifth. This week, Temple-Inland announced the mill would be closing.
Personnel Director Henry Thatcher says supervisors, managers and workers won´t be laid off until after October 1.
The mill produces paper used to make cardboard and corrugated paper in boxes. Temple-Inland says it´s being closed because the market is flooded with paper.
