“”Family Affair”” Nets 14 Indictments
A federal grand jury has indicted 14 people suspected of operating an 8 million dollar Silicon Valley marijuana smuggling ring. The indictment, unsealed this week in U-S District Court in San Jose, describes the ring as a family affair that began peddling pot in January 2000. Federal prosecutors say the operation shipped roughly 20-thousand pounds of marijuana from California and Texas to the Boston area, where it was sold. All but one of the 14 are in custody.
