Sonora Could Be New Stop For Bus Service
Toulumne County could see Greyhound bus service this fall if a grant proposal goes through.
Greyhound Bus Lines and Caltrans have worked out an agreement to provide a regular bus service between Stockton, Modesto, Oakdale and Sonora.
The line would link the foothills and San Joaquin Valley residents with Amtrak trains in Modesto and Stockton.
Sonora bus proponent Hope Hill says the deadline for submitting the grant is in early June and the county should find out if they got the grant by August.
An existing business would have to pull double duty as a bus depot for the new bus service which would serve Sonora two times a day.
Tuolumne County Supervisors were asked Tuesday to draft a letter of support for proposed Greyhound Bus service to Sonora. The service would go through a three-year trial period to see if there´s adequate ridership.
Hill said it has been at least 12 or 13 years since Sonora has seen regular bus service.
