Victims of the small plane that crashed near Yosemite Monday afternoon are from Carson City, Nevada.
A Tuolumne County Sheriff´s department spokesman says 42 year-old pilot Larry Levi and passenger 58 year-old Irene Weddell, wife of a prominent Nevada businessman, were killed in the crash. The victims are from Carson City, Nevada.
The two were on their way back to Carson City from Seal Beach when the plane went down in the Ackerson Meadow area of the Stanislaus National Forest.
The single engine Cessana is owned by Weddell´s husband Ron Weddell. Levi was the pilot for the family.
U.S. Forest Service firefighters found the wreckage around 2:30 p.m. Monday when they responed to a small wildfire in the area.
Tuolumne County Sheriffs Sgt. Bob Bogolea says as to the cause of the crash, the FAA and National Transportation and Safety Board investigators are speculating mechanical failure. They are still at the scene trying to determine the exact cause of the crash. Investigators will remove the aircraft´s engine for further examination.
