It apparently is the end to a year-long mystery. A law enforcement source says the human remains found in a Washington park this morning are those of missing intern Chandra Levy. A man walking his dog found a human skull in Rock Creek Park. The 24-year-old Modesto woman vanished nearly 13 months ago.
Levy´s disappearance after she left an internship with the Bureau of Prisons occurred in late April or early May of last year. Her Washington apartment was about four miles from where a man and his dog found human remains earlier today in Rock Creek Park.
The 24-year-old was from Modesto, California, where until today her parents had held out hope she would be found alive.
The media swirled around all aspects of the young woman´s disappearance after it was reported she had a close relationship with a congressman from her home area, Gary Condit. A Washington D-C police source said last summer that Condit revealed during questioning he had a romantic relationship with Levy. He has never made a public disclosure, saying only that they had a close relationship. The married congressman lost much of his support in the Democratic Party after the Levy case, and he was defeated in the March fifth primary in his bid for another term in Congress. Police have said repeatedly Condit was NOT a suspect in the disappearance.
