School Bus Rear-Ended In Highway 4 Crash
A SUV rear-ended a stopped school bus yesterday afternoon on Highway 4. There were no students on board when the collision took place. The 78-passenger school bus driven by 43-year-old Hathaway Pine resident Nancy Saulter had pulled off the highway west of Hillcrest Drive to drop-off the last student.
Another vehicle had stopped for bus´s red flashers when the Ford Explorer driven by 46-year-old Valerie McKnight of Murphys, traveling at about 45-to 50 miles per hour, realized traffic was stopped. McKnight swerved to avoid rear-ending the pick-up and rear-ended the stopped bus instead. She was taken to Mark Twain Hospital with moderate injuries.
A 54-year-old Copperopolis man was injured when he lost control of his motorcycle on a driveway off Pool Station Road.
CHP reports Thomas Hanzo was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was arrested and taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major head injuries.
