Legal Action Coming Against Church

Prosecutors say they will take legal action to obtain documents involving priests in the Los Angeles Archdiocese who are implicated in sex abuse cases. The move was prompted after a lawyer representing several of the accused priests contended the documents are protected by federal and state privacy laws. A D-A´s office spokeswoman did not specify what legal action would be taken but says there are several avenues available to prosecutors.

On May 16th, D-A Steve Cooley issued a stern order to Cardinal Roger Mahony to hand over all documents related to allegations of child molestations by priests or risk being questioned by a grand jury.
