More Port Cranes Arrive In Oakland
Four giant cargo cranes slipped beneath the Bay Bridge this morning with only inches to spare on the way to their new home at the Port of Oakland.
It was the third and final set of monster cranes that were built in Shanghai and shipped to Oakland to speed container ship loading. The highway patrol briefly closed San Francisco onramps to the bridge and slowed traffic in both directions as the freighter bearing the cranes chugged beneath the span.
The last crane delivery, on May first, went off without a hitch.
