Local Mother Lode county unemployment rates were below state average for May of this year, so reports the state Employment Development Department Friday.
California´s unemployment rate decreased last month even though 9,000 jobs were lost.
The jobless rate dipped from 6.5 percent in April to 6.3 percent in May.
In comparison to state averages, Tuolumne County jobless rate in May was 5.2 percent, while in Calaveras County the unemployment rate was 5.9 percent.
The state Employment Development Department predicts the rate will level off in the next few months.
The number of people looking for work in California also fell. There were 1.1-million last month, about 57,000 fewer than in March.
