California is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Lemon Law today.
Since 1982, California´s Lemon Law has protected consumers who buy or lease new vehicles with serious warranty defects that the dealer or manufacturer can´t repair after a reasonable number of attempts.
And Rebecca Crane of Modesto couldn´t be happier about that. Three years ago, she bought a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta. One month after driving off the lot, she started having electrical problems. Then her radio blew up.
But this week, she will receive a settlement check from Volkswagen.
She says it couldn´t have happened without the Lemon Law and can´t wait to buy a new car. It just won´t be a Volkswagen.
