Search And Rescue Aid Launched

A rocket carrying a satellite that could help collect weather data and monitor environmental events such as El Nino soared skyward from Vandenberg this morning.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather satellite rode on-board a Titan Two rocket that lifted off from the air force base at 11:25.

The $298 million spacecraft also carries a pair of instruments for the Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking System and would replace failing sensors already in orbit.
