New leaders of the state Assembly say they will work more cooperatively in the upcoming session. Incoming Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, a Democrat from Los Angeles says he already has a strong friendship with the new Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield.
The two men will take over their positions on January 1, but have already held meetings to discuss future plans. Both note that results of the October 7 recall election – in which former Governor Gray Davis was replaced by Arnold Schwarzenegger – show that voters are tired of politics as usual.
No specific details of how the two leaders would forge the new cooperation have been released. Lawmakers are due back in the Capitol next week.
