Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has granted parole to a woman who was sold as a slave when she was a teenager. Maria Suarez spent 22 years in prison and is now being released from the California Institution for Women In Chino. Suarez was convicted of first-degree murder in 1981 after a neighbor killed a 73-year-old with a table leg and Suarez hid the weapon. The Prison Sergeant in the case says Suarez could walk out of the prison this week. But the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a hold on her and she may be deported to Mexico. She is the second woman the governor has paroled.
