Catholic Church Sends Flu Prevention Guidelines
The flu epidemic has already worried many parents and elderly people — but now it´s also changing the way some Catholic churches in the San Francisco Bay area hold worship services.
Church leaders in San Francisco and San Jose have sent out new guidelines designed to prevent the spread of the flu. Among the temporary changes is a recommendation that churches no longer share a chalice of wine during communion — and that priests no longer place the communion wafer on parishioners´ tongues.
Some churches had already changed those traditions — but others maintained them. Parishioners are also being urged to refrain from shaking hands during the “sign of peace” and from holding hands during the Lord´s Prayer.
