On Capitol Hill today, starstruck congressional Republicans welcomed Arnold Schwarzenegger during the governor-elect´s first official visit to the nation´s capital.
Schwarzenegger electrified the halls of Congress as he was trailed by an entourage that included lawmakers, gawkers and up to 20 television news crews.
With wildfires raging back home, however, Schwarzenegger had a serious agenda. He began his day meeting with the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
He also met with the House and Senate leadership; the California congressional delegation, and Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta.
California Congressman Bill Thomas, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, described the Hollywood actor as “much more impressive in person than in pictures.”
After the morning meetings, Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, also had lunch with her Uncle Ted, better known in Washington as Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
