Davis Appointments May Not Stick

Dozens of last-minute appointments made by Governor Davis could be withdrawn by Governor-elect Schwarzenegger when he takes office next month.

The state Senate´s leader says his house will not reconvene before Schwarzenegger is sworn in to confirm the nominations. That means that Schwarzenegger can pull the appointments when he gets into the governor´s chair.

Davis has made nearly 90 appointments to various state posts since voters recalled him on October 7th. The nominees include a number of his top aides.

Some senators have expressed a reluctance to confirm so many appointments by the first governor in California history to be recalled.

Senate sources have said that Senate leaders are negotiating with Schwarzenegger aides to allow no more than 12 to 15 Davis appointments to go through.
