California´s Central Valley may soon have a new major sports and entertainment complex.
The Stockton City Council is set Tuesday to consider a plan for a new 20-acre center on the north shore of the Stockton Channel. The complex would include a 10,000 seat arena and a 5,000 seat baseball stadium. There would also be a hotel, shops and apartments.
The city would use almost $100 million in interest earnings, bonds and developer fees to pay the bulk of the project´s cost.
The baseball stadium would be used by the Stockton Ports, the local minor league baseball team. The city does not currently have pro sports teams to play in the larger arena, although it could also be used for other events.
