A check of the records in Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger´s gubernatorial recall campaign has revealed a bottom line written in red ink. The reports show Schwarzenegger is spending $500,000 a month on campaign consultants and owes more than $2.4 million dollars in unpaid bills to consultants and other creditors.
Campaign treasurer Colleen McAndrews says many of Schwarzenegger´s consultants, fund-raisers and office expenses have not been paid, freeing up that money for advertising and other creditors who demand payment up front.
McAndrews says the high debt is a result of a slow-down in fund-raising as a federal appellate court considered postponing the election.
Schwarzenegger personally contributed $2 million to his campaign and Total Recall funds on September 4.
