Analysts say while last night´s debate was spirited, none of the five candidates clearly won the show.
CSU, Sacramento government professor Barbara O´Connor says actor-turned-candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger “composed himself well and that´s all he needed to do.” In the end, she says she doesn´t think anyone hit a home run.
During most of the exchanges, Schwarzenegger held his own while not engaging in as much detailed policy discussion as some of the other candidates, particularly Republican state Senator Tom McClintock and Green Party candidate Peter Camejo.
Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante defended traditional Democratic positions, like providing health care to low income families and text books for poor school districts. Observers say his manner seemed, at times, subdued and at times condescending.
