A serial child molester will continue living in a trailer on the outskirts of Soledad while a judge considers motions from angry residents to oust him.
The city of Soledad filed papers last month with Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Robert Baines. They want to expel 44-year-old Brian DeVries who was convicted of molesting nine children.
DeVries was sent to live in a mobile home on prison grounds in Monterey County because the California Department of Mental Health could not find a landlord for him in San Jose.
Soledad activists and attorneys said in court yesterday the community had insufficient time to prepare for DeVries´ arrival. They worried DeVries´ placement would turn the rural town into a haven for more than 400 other ex-cons awaiting release from a state treatment program for sexually violent predators.
Baines says he could rule as early as tomorrow.
