The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily closed trails in the Stanislaus National Forest around the area of the Mountain Complex Fire.
The 12,000-acre fire is burning at the upper end of Bell Meadow and Chain Lakes area.
Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn says the closure is to protect the public and firefighters working the blaze. The closure is in affect until October 31, 2003.
The fires were started by lightning July 22 and are being managed by the forest service to reduce fire danger in the area. Two fire crews are on the firelines daily. The fire is expected to continue to burn throughout the remainder of the fire season which should end by the end of October.
