Arnold Won´t Lead Mexican Independence Parade

Arnold Schwarzenegger´s campaign says the actor was invited to be grand marshal of a Mexican Independence Day parade scheduled for Sunday in Los Angeles. But the invitation was later rescinded.

Spokesman Sean Walsh blames pressure by Democrats, but a state Democratic Party spokesman denies that.

Schwarzenegger´s campaign today provided an August 5 letter, apparently on the letterhead of the group that puts on the event, The Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico, inviting Schwarzenegger to lead the parade.

The committee´s president, however, said it had made no formal plans to invite Schwarzenegger to lead the parade and that the overture was made by a volunteer who did not have the official backing of the committee.

Walsh says Schwarzenegger still plans to participate in the parade, just not as grand marshal.
