Huge Branch Brings Down Powerlines

A large branch spilt from an oak tree in Downtown Sonora this afternoon, bringing down powerlines and snapping three powers poles in its wake. One resident said it sounded “like a bomb” when the tree limb broke loose.

The huge branch dropped on Sunset Street near Yaney and Dodge streets around 2:15 p.m., narrowly missing two parked cars. The section of tree did some damage to a residence across the street. There were no injuries.

PG and E had a crew on the scene and was accessing damage. No word on any power outage in the downtown Sonora area, though.
