Governor Davis will reportedly give his first major address on the state´s recall today at UCLA. The Los Angeles Times says Davis will defend his record on the state´s economy and power crisis and accept responsibility for some of his administration´s shortcomings.
Davis hopes to convince voters not to recall him or stray to other candidates, including his lieutenant governor, Cruz Bustamante.
Aides to the governor told the Times that Davis will compare the recall to President Clinton´s impeachment and the 2000 Florida presidential vote. They say Davis also plans to travel around California and hold a series of town hall-style meetings to highlight his knowledge of issues.
